About the Character
Name: James Arthur “Jamie” Madrox
Codename: Multiple
Age: 13, almost 14!
Gender: Male
Species: Mutant
Affiliation: X-Men, new recruits
Mutation/Powers: Jamie has the ability to create and 'recall' multiple functioning duplicates of himself upon a collision. His duplicates have the ability to move and think independently, but they will usually do what Jamie wants them to, mainly because they share the same goals. The duplicates always work together as a unit and are willing to comply to whatever Jamie tells them. The duplicates share memories and skills with the Prime Jamie.
The amount of force that triggers his duplicates could range from his body slamming against a wall to someone bumping into him on accident. In actuality, he can only create one ‘dupe’ per contact. The reason why he seems to create more is because sometimes he bounces back upon collision or the duplicate he created duplicates again when hit, and when that duplicate hits into the other duplicate... you get the idea.
Once ‘recalled’, Jamie’s duplicates absorb back into his body like a vacuum. Jamie has a telepathic connection with each duplicate that he creates. When all of the dupes are brought back, Jamie gains all of their memories and experiences. If one duplicate was murdered, Jamie would have a first-person vision of himself being killed, which would be a very traumatic experience for him.
His weaknesses include...
1. Each duplicate is only as strong and agile as Jamie. A thirteen-year old lightweight with very little experience in combat isn’t going to do much damage if going by brute force.
2. Jamie has no defense against mental and telepathic attacks. Though he does have telepathic power, it is very weak and can only be used on his duplicates. Mental games and taunting are also more likely to work on him than a more experienced X-Man. Also, if a murdered duplicate gets absorbed back into Jamie, he will be mentally distraught, most likely giving up the fight.
3. When recalling duplicates, he has to have a moment to collect himself. Recalling too many at once, or too fast, can result in him having a severe headache or even blacking out.
4. Jamie is very clumsy in and out of combat, and this could cause a lot of problems. He isn’t too stealthy, and he constantly fumbles formations. Since his powers are involuntary, he has to be cautious about going into the outside world. If he bumps into a wall and creates a duplicate in plain sight, they’ll obviously see that he’s a mutant.
5. Also, anything that could potentially kill a human could kill Jamie. He has the basic needs of a human- hunger, thirst and fatigue are some examples. If someone tried poisoning him, they would successfully kill him. He is very vulnerable in the sense that he can be killed by anything a human can.
Physical Description: Jamie has brown hair and brown eyes. His height is 4'11. Jamie's appearance is as normal as you could make it- he doesn't have any physical mutations or dyed hair, but he's happy to stay the way he is. He is the average height and weight for a thirteen year old boy, and has a mop of messy brown hair on the top of his head. He isn't too muscular- in fact, he's more like a string bean than anything. He is fair skinned, but not pasty pale. Jamie has a button-like nose and a young-looking face, even for his age. He usually wears long-sleeved shirts, sneakers and jeans when out of uniform. His uniform is the standard for X-trainees.
Personality: Jamie is a very gentle natured boy- the kid you would see feeding ducks in a pond. He is kind and loyal, always sticking by his friends no matter what. Though he is a sweet kid, he has a smart mouth when he wants it to show. He is very nervous, especially about his powers because they aren’t under his control. He has doubts about his own contribution to the team, and often fumbles a training session because of it. His anxiety isn’t severe, but it’s there.
Jamie is incredibly clumsy- he isn’t too careful with bumping into things when around the Institute, but outside, he is as careful as he possibly can be, but that’s no guarantee that he won’t smash into something and create four other Jamie’s in plain sight. As a result of this clumsiness, Jamie is embarrassed easily.
Jamie acts the same way any thirteen year old boy would. He's very immature compared to the other students, though not bratty or impolite. He’s irresponsible- it's not uncommon for Jamie to get lost in a long sleeved shirt or be late for training. Luckily, his peers often dismiss those issues on account of his age, but they don't rely on him as a result. Additionally, he tends to be blissfully unaware how much trouble he's getting himself into- call it the 'childish' side of him. (Which takes up a lot!)
Jamie is willing to do whatever the other trainees want to do, as long as they let him tag along. In most cases, the guys only let him come to embarrass him, or to use him as a distraction when they get caught joyriding again. However, Jamie hasn’t exactly caught on- partly because he is naive, and also because he doesn’t see himself as any lower than anyone else. As a result, he assumes they really want him there. Jamie is an optimist by nature, seeing the good in people even if they don't deserve it at all.
Jamie is not a very quick thinker, due to indecisiveness. He tends to over-analyze things, and study them before making a decision. He is usually not relied on to make big decisions for team formations. Over-thinking a good quality to have in a science lab, but not on the battlefield, as he has been told numerous times by the Xavier instructors, just worded differently.
Jamie isn’t too fond of being left out. He doesn’t think it’s fair that the other trainees are only one or two years older than him, yet get treated like potential X-Men as opposed to a ‘kid’. He swallows this though, even if it leaves a tight knot in his throat.
Nevertheless, Jamie is a boy with a conscience- he may do something wrong with the other trainees to be a part of their crowd, but he'd be the first to come forth and admit what he did. He is also a terrible liar- when trying to get out of a sticky group-joyride situation, for the love of God, do not let Jamie do any talking. If he does get to tell the lie, he'll shift his eyes and fumble with his fingers and stutter as he tells a story of how far in a deep sleep all of the trainees were that night, and chances are the trainees plan will be foiled, especially if it's Logan (telepaths are obviously included). And if by some miracle it does work and the group gets off scott-free, he'll probably admit to it the next day anyway.
In a nutshell, he is a kind-hearted, nervous boy who seeks acceptance from his peers.
Face Claim: Greyson Chance
History: Jamie wasn’t actually born in New York. He was raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico, living on a farm near the research facility where his father worked. His father was a brilliant scientist named Dr. Daniel Madrox, and his mother Brielle was a homemaker. His parents were pleased to see that he was happy and healthy, but they had no idea that he harbored the x-gene.
As soon as he was old enough, Jamie was home-schooled, but basically isolated from social interaction other than his parents. This didn’t make him terribly lonely, but he still felt a pang in his heart like something was missing from his life- friends. He didn’t know life other than his- take care of the farm in the morning, and then continue with his studies. His father helped him through his studies and fostered his interest in biology and agriculture. He also taught him some astronomy, and everything to do with what he knew. Jamie and his father had even built an underground hide-out together, forged deep into the crevices of the ground.
On Jamie’s thirteenth birthday, he’d heard an urgent news report of a tornado on TV. He went to warn his mother and father, who were fighting in the next room. Jamie kept knocking on the door, and they wouldn’t answer- they just kept screaming at each other. An upset Jamie ran to the hideout, where he stayed for a few hours. When he eventually poked his head out of the hideout, he saw the unimaginable- his house and the farm were torn apart from the tornado. He searched and searched for his parents in the rubble, only being able to see his mother’s head and father’s leg. He went into hysterics and started crying and hyperventilating. When he found he wasn’t strong enough to lift the floorboards, he cried. To this day, Jamie blames himself for their deaths- he couldn't warn them about the tornado.
It was odd how he coped with it- at the funeral, the guests consisting mostly of his father’s colleagues, Jamie had cried so much the previous few nights that he didn’t have any tears left in him. He stood at their headstones for the entire day, and left at sun-down- he was still a little afraid of the dark, even at his age.
When he returned home, he started to bang his fists on the remains of his kitchen and slammed his body against the wall in anguish. Sure enough, a duplicate of Jamie smiled at him. Jamie was obviously frightened and tried talking to the Jamie-duplicate, and he simply replied, ‘I am you’ and didn’t say much more after that. He didn’t harbor any personality or physical differences- but the dupe didn’t seem to think much on his own.
Sure enough, Cerebro picked up traces of mutant DNA at the Institute. Professor X had arrived in New Mexico shortly upon the recall of Jamie’s duplicate. He explained the mutation and offered Jamie the chance to be enrolled at the Xavier Institute, but Jamie didn’t need much convincing.
RP Sample:"C'mon, guys," Jamie whimpered, with his head lowered. "We're gonna get in trouble."
Jamie was usually not a party-pooper when it came to this stuff. He was usually very happy to comply with whatever the other trainees were doing to look cool. He watched his fellow trainee do the unthinkable as he was subdued because no one acknowledged his plea. The trainees had snuck into the garage and had proceeded to take a sharpie to Logan's motorcycle.
The trainee holding the sharpie smirked as he said, "Having second thoughts, Jamie?"
With that, the nameless trainee wrote 'Jamie waz here' on the side of the bike. It was with this action that Logan entered the garage for his morning ride. The other trainees giggled, ran for their lives and shoved Jamie out of the way.
This caused Jamie to multiply, creating three duplicates. When Logan walked over to his bike, Jamie knew he should've ran. But he knew with Logan, resistance was futile. Logan growled and stepped toward Jamie and the duplicates.
"Which one... is the kid?" Logan's teeth clenched.
All three of the duplicates pointed to Jamie alone. Jamie rolled his eyes and sighed.
"Gee, thanks a lot, you guys-"
Logan looked at him angrily as the dupes phased back into his body. Logan was calm now, but he said in his usual gruff voice, "What's with ya', kiddo? This isn't like you."
Jamie hung his head low in shame. "It wasn't me, honest! It was-"
"And now you're lyin'." Logan said matter-of-factly. "Fine. You can detail my bike every time I go for a ride for an entire month then. You can start by removing your name."
Jamie opened his mouth to protest, then sighed and grumbled, "Yes sir..."
Off in the distance, Jamie's pouting could be heard as he scrubbed the bike. "It's not fair... stupid sharpie... stupid bike..."
But all the while, Jamie wasn't exactly angry at the trainee who'd written his name on Logan's bike. In an odd way, he'd semi-forgiven him for it. Mostly because he wanted to be part of their group. He didn't have a social circle at all until he reached the Institute. Jamie knew that some of his friends only kept him there to make fun of him, but others were there because they genuinely liked his presence. Or so that's what he wanted to believe.
