Gambit couldn't say he wasn't not enjoying this. Every girl that he had met recently had never reacted to him in the way that this girl was. Granted, he had been stuck in the mansion for a while, most of the people in the mansion substantially younger than him, since most of the students were in their early teens, so that could have been part of the reason he hadn't been getting much of a reaction. Remy didn't even try flirting with them, because he was supposed to be a role model in the place, though he didn't know where that came up. Almost all of his life Gambit hadn't been that, since he had never tried for it.
"Gambit known for breakin' rules, Chere," he said to her with a slight chuckle as an undertone. "Why follow somet'in' so strict dat it take all your freedom, eh? Ain' so easily impressed no more now dat I grown. 'S a chil', den I work ta impress an' be good, but dat was ta my father. Dese people ain' no one Gambit know." Along with being known to break rules, Gambit was also known as a speaker. He did tend to talk and talk, ramble on, and people still listened. It was fine with him, of course, especially when he talked with the ladies. For some reason--possibly his slight hypnotic charm--they listened and begged for more. Remy was sure, though, that this lady didn't need any help from that small mutant power of his.
At the moment that the girl got even closer to Gambit, he almost pretended he didn't even notice. "Ain' everyone?" Gambit replied to her question, rotating his head minutely. Opening his mouth, the edges of his mouth curved upwards, he was actually about to tell her his name when Rogue entered the room.
She took his arm, catching him off guard. He let out a little sound of surprise to accompany his expression as he was forced to distance himself from the girl again. "If you say dat, Rogue, den why ain't you in der yourself, eh?" he asked her, turning his face to hers as best he could. He didn't try to move so that he was holding her, because he didn't much like the way she acted as if he was her possession. Nothing was official between the two, so Remy didn't see why he had to stay loyal to just her. His expression, even, showed that he wasn't too thrilled with her.
Unable to move unless he outright shoved Rogue away from him, Gambit turned his eyes back to the other girl's face. "Name's Gambit, chere. Sure you alrea'y know dat, though." He flicked his eyes defiantly back to Rogue before settling on the blond again. "Tell me, now, somet'in' Gambit don' know." He flashed her a slight smile, breaking his obvious "amusement" caused by Rogue's appearance. "What I get ta call you?"

When Rogue came up and put her arm in Remy's, even Ariana knew she didn't have a chance. She'd mildly flirted with Gambit, and had been smiling at him, nodding in agreement in his statement about freedom.
But as soon as Rogue gave her that look, she knew she'd better stop. And that wasn't usually something Ariana liked to do, but even she didn't wanna mess with Rogue, no matter how nice she appeared. Turning her face back to Gambit as he introduced himself, she smiled only slightly.
"What I get ta call you?"
"You can call me Ariana. And I can see I'm-" she moved her arm away from Gambit's with her next words "moving in on occupied territory." With that, she left the room, and went back to her own.

Rogue couldn't help the smile that grew across her face when Ariana said she was "moving in on occupied territory", to put it into her words. Her smile grew a little more when she left. It wasn't that she didn't like the girl personally-she would've acted the same way if anyone else had done it.
She waved a bit at Logan before turning on Remy. "What the hell was that shit?" she almost screamed. Rogue was good at hiding her emotions, but anger wasn't one of them. "Ah cannot believe you would have the god damned nerve, Remy! What makes you think you can just pass me riaght on by and-" Rogue shut up before she could continue, because she knew if she went further, her real, true feelings for Gambit would show.
In truth, she did love him. More than he knew. But, it wasn't that fact that scared the living daylights out of Rogue. No, it was what he would do if he knew. Laugh in her face? Cut her off completly? She'd rather have this between them than that.

I had been watching those guards out side the window. I wasn't really interested in the topic anymore. Gumbo could keep the girl entertained. I found it much more entertaining to watch the guards. They were staring at us, suspicious. I turned back just in time to see Rogue wave. I lifted my now half empty bottle at her before turning back to the guards. I spotted on of them look at me just before Rogue said some not so lady like words. My head snapped back around.
"Watch the language, Darlin'. We got kids here," I said. I'll admit, I wasn't perfect either, but at least I tried to use substitutes. I could see that Her and Gambit were about to have a fight. I sighed. Like we could afford to be fighting each other at a time like this. We should be fighting the guards and getting rid of the damn collars. They were literally killing me. I couldn't smoke or drink anymore because of the fear that I might speed up the process and it was torture.

Ariana. That would be a name Gambit would have to remember while Rogue was off somewhere else. He frowned when she stated that she wasn't exactly welcome, because by Rogue's standards, she wasn't. But by all means of Gambit's, she certainly was. Some sneaking around was now required of the Cajun, he thought with a smile as Ariana left the room.
"Chere, before ya go off yellin' at me, settle down. It ain't a good t'ing talkin' ta people while ya in a bad mood. Ya do t'ings you go an' regret." He sighed, leaning against the counter with his head in his hand. Rogue wouldn't stop, no matter what Remy said. He let her get all her words out before looking back at her. "You any idea how Gambit treated people 'fore I met you?" he asked coolly, blinking slowly. "You lucky--" he cut himself off, shaking his head. "Never mind, chere. Forget Gambit said dat." He was about to say she was lucky the way the relationship was now. Remy had never been so loyal to another woman, with a few admitted faults, besides maybe Bella Donna.
Standing up to his full height, he gave Wolverine a quick glance, whose back was turned to watch the guards out the window. Putting both his hands on Rogue's shoulders, he looked into her eyes, passive dominance in them. He wasn't about to be talked down to by Rogue, no matter what she thought. "Gambit sorry if I offended you," he told her. "It jus' hard ta get outta da habit I been in 'fore we . . . made it more or less steady. You know I don' want ta hurt you." Then, changing the role a bit, he let his hands fall from her shoulders, hanging his head as well.

Rogue felt her heart tug and tear at Gambit's words. As she listened, she didn't fully understand what it was he was telling her. Definately not that he returned the feelings she felt for him, at least not fully.
Though the tears never showed on her face, they were clear as day in Rogue's voice. "Why do you do this ta me, Remy? Is there some kinda sick satisfaction or somethin' ya get from toyin' with me liake Ah ain't nothin' but some stranger?" The sadness in her voice slowly got harder, becoming replaced with a mix of both sadness, anger, and certainty.
Rogue had tried to keep the sadness from her voice in her previous words, not wanting to appear weak in front of Logan, but this was something even she couldn't mask and gloss over, and the words that flowed from her lips seemed to carry not only yhe sadness and anger and certanity of themselves, but the full sadness she'd wanted to put into her other words.
"Cause Ah been toyed with plenty, and Ah don't know how much more Ah can handle."

So it was a fight. I sighed silently and continued to watch the guards. One of them was getting antsy with me watching them. He'd look back at me periodically. I decided that the next time he turned around, I'd give him one of my sadistic smiles, just to scare the boy. He didn't look more than 22 years old. He was most likely young and stupid. I waited a moment before he turned around again and smiled my twisted smile at him. That got him and he ran to the other side of the gate. I laughed. Though I couldn't hurt them, I could still freak the guards out.
I took another sip of my soda to find that it was finished. I growled and got another. This one was warm as well. I sighed. I could use the Popsicle right about now. I hated warms sodas and beers. They never tasted right. I tuned back into the fight Rogue and Gambit were having. Apparently Rogue wasn't happy with there current situation. I told her he wasn't good for her, but all I got in response was her threatening to knock me out for a week.
I thought about getting involved, but I knew better. I knew if I pissed Gambit off, I wasn't fast enough to dodge all of his blows anymore. I shifted and grunted. Things were starting to hurt. I had been ready to die for a while now, but now that I pretty much had a home and I was so close to unlocking my past, I wasn't sure if I wanted to pass on just yet.
